This service includes the design, manufacture, and on-site installation of a custom Fairkey wooden keyboard in your grand piano, within the EU. The price is listed ex VAT and includes travel.
 
Before any measurements of the piano are taken, we first determine the correct hand size.
 
You can do this using our simple measurement tool, which can be downloaded and printed at home or ordered from us. Once you have the tool, we schedule a video call to establish the correct size together. This step ensures that the internal proportions of the keyboard are matched to the player, not just the overall width.
 
After the hand size is confirmed, we carry out the instrument measurement process.
 
This is done using a guided, fail-proof method during a video call with Fairkey, either together with you or with your tuner or technician - whichever you prefer. This ensures that the geometry of the piano is captured correctly.
 
Based on these measurements, the keyboard is generated by software, not drawn by hand. Our system analyses both the instrument and the selected hand size to create a keyboard that fits precisely and behaves predictably - without trial and error, and without shipping your piano or original parts.
 
The keys are manufactured from carefully selected wood that is stabilised under high pressure for stiffness and dimensional consistency. Our polymer bushing and regulation system is specifically designed to avoid the friction, instability, and wear issues that occur in smaller keyboards when traditional felt bushings are used.
 
For this option, a new, separate action is supplied for the Fairkey keyboard, while the original grand piano action remains unchanged. The two configurations can be exchanged by the user in a few minutes, without tools or regulation work. In practice, this option is primarily relevant where full reversibility or preservation of the original configuration is required.
 
Installation is performed on site by Fairkey.
 
The keyboard and new action are fitted, regulated, and aligned within your instrument, resulting in a finished, correctly functioning ergonomic keyboard that can be swapped with the original configuration when desired.
